New Requirements for Lift Director

Starting January 1, 2025, a 32-Hour Lift Director card is required. You’ll also need to renew every 3 years with an 8-Hour Lift Director Refresher. The 8-Hour Master Rigger Refresher is replaced by: V 8-Hour Lift Director Refresher New licenses now require a 40-Hour HMO Course. 

Starting November 7, 2024, the 8-Hour HMO Refresher won’t be accepted for limited licenses. As of December 11, 2024, Major Buildings include those 7+ stories or 75+ feet.

New Requirements for Sidewalk Sheds 

 

  • When installed for façade repair projects (e.g., local law 11), sheds do not need to be installed beyond 40′ from the building, as long as the building has no setbacks, no projections above the 2’* story other than AC units, lintels or sills. This is a new exception in B.C. 3307.6.3.

  • Shed height will now be 12′ rather than the historical minimum height of 8′ (unless the 12′ height will interfere with air, light or egress, especially fire escapes).This changes B.C. 3307.6.4.7.

  • Acceptable colors for shed components (frames, braces, parapets, legs, vertical members, beams, cross bracing, and metallic elements) when used on existing buildings, other than full demolitions, will now be hunter green, metallic gray, white, or any color that matches the façade, trim, cornice, or sloped roof (metallic elements of shed frames may still remain metallic gray and mesh parapets may be black). This changes B.C. 3307.6.4.11.

  • Construction fences shall be painted hunter green, metallic gray, white, or any color that matches the façade, trim, cornice, or sloped roof. This changes B.C. §3307.7.9.

  • Construction fences must match the same color of the shed when installed for new buildings and full demolitions in accordance with B.C. 3307.7.
    In addition to the above, the DOB will be finalizing Rules relating to the use of containment netting in lieu of sidewalk sheds.

Annual Parapet Observation Deadline: December 31, 2025

  • Building owners must hire a qualified professional to inspect parapets facing a public sidewalk, roadway, or space accessible to the public.

  • The inspection must identify safe or unsafe conditions, actions taken to remedy any unsafe condition, including photos and any repairs made
    .
  • If an unsafe condition is identified, the owner will be obligated to immediately install protection (sidewalk shed, netting, scaffolding, etc.) for the public until the condition is remedied.
